Journal: In 5 or more sentences, explain the role God played in what happened to Joseph, according to these verses:

Jacob’s Roller-Coaster Ride:
- Joseph was sold as a slave in Egypt to Potiphar (Pharaoh’s bodyguard captain)
- - God blesses Joseph w/success  & shows him kindness!
- - Potiphar promotes Joseph to the highest slave position!
- - - He overseer all of Potiphar’s house
- - Joseph is both prosperous & handsome..
- - - Potiphar’s wife tries to get him to sleep with her…
- - - When Joseph refuses to commit adultery—
- - - - She lies about him & gets him imprisoned
- In jail, God continued to bless Joseph!
- - The leader of the jail looked kindly upon Joseph
- - Joseph was promoted to the highest prisoner position!
- - - He is responsible over all the prisoners!

Jacob’s Roller-Coaster Ride: Years later…
- Pharaoh (Egypts king) imprisons his cupbearer and baker in Joseph’s jail
- - They each have disturbing dreams about the future…
- - - They ask Joseph about what they mean
- - - God gives Joseph an accurately interpretation of the dreams!
- - The cupbearer is freed from jail & returned to Pharaoh’s service! :-)
- - - The baker is put to death. :-(
- - Joseph asks the cupbearer to tell Pharaoh about Joseph’s own innocence & ask for his released
- - - The cupbearer promises to do so! :-)
- - - But then, the cupbearer forgot… :-(

Jacob’s Roller-Coaster Ride: Two years later…
- Pharaoh had a disturbing dream about the future!
- - No one could interpret what it meant!
- - The cupbearer them remembers Joseph!
- - - He tells Pharaoh about him
- - Pharaoh has Joseph brought in
- - - God interprets the dream for Joseph
- - - - 7 yrs of great abundance will be followed by 7 yrs of terrible famine!
- - - Pharaoh recognized God’s presence with/in Joseph
- - - - He promotes him to lead in this time as the 2nd in command of Egypt!
- - - Joseph (30 yo) is renamed Zaphenath-paneah
- - - - He marries Asenath
- - - - They have two children: Manasseh & Ephraim
- Joseph collected tons of food in the years of abundance
- - From his leadership, Egypt had plenty of food during the famine
- - They even have enough to sell it to all who had need—and paid!
