Genesis 29-31: Jacob & Laban: Study packet, page 2
- Jacob’s Family Grows:- - Jacob loves Rachel much more than Leah
- - - Instead of even trying to be fair, she is his favorite
- - - - So God lets Leah have children while Rachel remains barren
- - - After MUCH drama and conflict, Jacob has these children:
- - - - Each compete to give Jacob children
- - - - - Leah hopes to gain his love in this
- - - - - Rachel hopes to show her worth
- - - - They each give Jacob their servants for more kids ‘on their side’
- - In the end, Jacob has these children: Leah has 6 sons & Dinah (the only daughter), Zilpah (Leah’s servant) has 2 sons, Bilhah (Rachel’s) has 2 sons, & Rachel has Joseph
- - - Leah: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dinah (the only daughter!)
- - - Zilpah (Leah’s): Gad, Asher
- - - Rachel: Joseph, Benjamin (later in time)
- - - Bilhah (Rachel’s): Dan, Naphtali
Jacob's Family Tree: I showed two pictures/charts that showed how Jacob's family grew
- Some fun things to point out:
- - Moses came from the line of Levi (of Leah & Jacob)
- - David came from the line of Judah (of Leah & Jacob)
- - Jesus then came from the line of David (of Leah & Jacob)

- - Laban sees that God blesses Jacob w/everything he does, so…
- - - Hoping to get rich, he gets Jacob to work for him for 6 more years
- - - - Instead of working for wives, Jacob is now working for his own flocks
- - - God greatly blesses Jacob’s for all 6 of these years
- - - - Jacob’s flocks grow MUCH more than Laban’s flocks
- - - - Laban covets Jacob’s flocks
- - - - - He keeps changing their agreements to get a better deal—
- - - - - But God keeps changing what happens so that Jacob prospers!
- - - - Laban grows to dislike Jacob and God tells Jacob to return to Canaan
