Instructional Time: Unit 4: Exodus 1-20
Journal: Open your Study Packet to page 8:
- Read the paragraph in the top right
- - Highlight (or underline with colored pencil/pen) how Jesus summarized these (the “Great & First Commandment”)
- Copy the 10 Commandments into the middle box, “What are the 10 Commandments?”
- - Which part of the “Great & First Commandment” are the first 4 “10 Commandments” related to?
- - - Highlight these & write a quick notes for what they relate to.
- - Which part of the “Great & First Commandment” are the last 6 “10 Commandments” related to?

- - The Greatest Commandment “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”” – Matthew 22:37-40

Israel’s Response
- Israel experienced this all and…
- - They were very afraid! 
- - Having God speak to them freaked them out! 
- They tell Moses, “You speak to us, & we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us, or we will die!” (A bit dramatic?)
- The Covenant is Confirmed (Ex 24:3-5)
- - Moses goes up & gets more of the covenant from God
- - - He writes it all down 
- - - He returns to Israel, telling them all of God’s words
- - The people’s response: “Everything the Lord has said we will do.” (24:3)
- - An offering is given, to ‘seal the deal’

Theology
- - God is full of power & glory! 
- - Obeying God leads to great blessings, especially including a closer relationship with Him! 
- - God holds us accountable to the laws He gives
- - God is jealous for us—for our own good He wants us to only worship & follow Him. 
Anthropology
- - Our morals are based on God’s commands
- - Life goes best when we worship God alone
- - Honoring our parents gives us a better life
- - We should honestly commit to follow God
- - We shouldn’t let fear push us away from God
