Read Exodus 15:1-13 & 19-21, then answer:
- What does this tell us about God?
- What does this say on how God treats His people?
- If you were to sing a song to God about some of the great things He did in your life, what would you sing about? Write it down!
- If you are done early, start working on your Unit Handout’s blank pages. Make sure to bring this for tomorrow’s ‘journal,’ too!

Exodus 12:1-15:21 – Theology & Anthropology: Study Packet, Page 3
- Theology:
- - In His sinless life, Jesus is the fulfillment of the unleavened bread, thus He called it “my body”
- - In His perfect life & sacrifice that let God ‘pass over’ us in His judgment,
- - - Jesus is the fulfillment of the Passover lamb
- - - “Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” - 1 Cor. 5:7 (NIV)
- - God receives glory, even through sinful people
- - God will lead His people through life
- - God can work w/out us doing anything!
- Anthropology:
- - Our holidays & songs should honor God &
- - Remind us of God’s character & actions
- - A sacrifice is required to save us
- - We can fearlessly trust God’s plans
Exodus 15:22-18:27) Initial Wilderness Wanderings: Study Packet, Page 2
God’s Merciful Provision:
- Not having the water & food they want,
- - Israel grumbles against God—
- - accusing Him of bringing them into the wilderness to die!
- God provides water, bread, & meat, saying, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you” (15:26).
- God sends “bread from heaven”
- - This becomes named “manna,” meaning: “What is it?”
- - God gives special collection rules to test Israel
- - - Only collect enough for each day – We trust God for our daily bread!
- - - Collect twice the amount the day before the Sabbath
- - - Don’t collect on the Sabbath – We devote this day to Him in rest
- - Some quickly fail this test…
War!
- When Amalekites attack Israel…
- - Moses sends Joshua to lead the fight against them!
- - Joshua leads the first army of Israel
- Moses watches from a neighboring hill
- - When he holds his hands & staff up…
- - - Israel begins to win! :-D
- - When his arms get tired & his hands/staff lower…
- - - The Amalekites begin to win! D-:
- - So, Aaron & Hur help Moses
- - - They hold up his arms & find a seat for him
- - - Finally, Israel totally wins!
- In celebration & worship, Moses built an altar to God
- - He calls it, “The LORD is my Banner”
