Journal 2-1:
- Read Genesis 12:1-9 & then answer:
- - 1) How do Abram’s actions of obedience show that he had faith (belief & trust) in God? (What would require faith about this?)
- - - Many possible answers here! Leaving his family, moving to a new place, doesn't know what's ahead, etc...
- - 2) Summarize God’s promises to Abram
- - - God will bless Abram, making him a great nation, making his name great, and through him all peoples on the earth will be blessed!
- - - That last part of the blessing is key! It was fulfilled through the work of Jesus, when God offered salvation to all 'peoples on the earth' through their faith in Jesus
- - 3) What does Abram do twice here as worship to God?
- - - He builds an altar, a pile of rocks, stacked up to make a place to burn sacrifices.
- - - These served several purposes:
- - - - (1) A time to worship, praise, & thank God for what He has done
- - - - (2) A time to get right with God in your relationship by offering sacrifice for sins
- - - - (3) Setting up something that will be visible for years to come as a reminder of what God did in your life at that time and place
- When you’re done, read Genesis 12:10-20 & then answer questions 1-4 on page 7 of your study packet
