Journal 1-1: Answer this on page 11 of your Unit 1 Study Packet
- Read John 1:1-3 and 1:14
- 1) How is this similar to the beginning of Genesis (which you read yesterday)?
- - Read Gen 1:1 to see!
- 2) What do these verses teach about Jesus?
- - In verse 14 we see how 'The Word' became flesh, meaning that Jesus is 'The Word'
- - Where/When was He? With God in the beginning of everything!
- - - Jesus was there at the beginning--He did not merely 'appear' or 'be made' when the New Testament happened
- - What did He do? Jesus is the Creator! (v3)
- - - Jesus is the part of the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit) that actually created all things!
- - - This is one reason why His nick-name is 'The Word,' because in the beginning, God 'spoke' and creation happened--it was His words that did it!
- Side Notes:
- - The Old Testament has no 'clear picture' of the Trinity, although there are 'hints' toward it (e.g. some say when God speaks of Himself as "Us" this is one such hint)
- - John helps us, then, to see how Jesus was active even in the Old Testament days.
Quiz Questions: I answered any final questions about our first quiz (Friday)
