Quiz 1a Preparation: We took notes for this on page 4 of our Study packet
- Vocabulary Words: You are not quizzed on these, but, they are good to know
- - Likeness: To be like or similar to
- - Subdue: To put under your control (we subdue pets so they are safe & kind to us)
- - Dominion: To be in charge of, to have control over
- Your Verses: Genesis 1:27-28 (ESV)
- Your Questions: Based upon class discussion & your personal reflection of these verses, use complete sentences & your own words to specifically answer:
- - 1) Describe three different things that it means for humans to be made in God’s image.
- - - It does NOT mean that we physically look like God. The Old Testament emphasizes that God is Spirit, so this Old Testament would refer to something different
- - - - Jesus did come as a man, and we 'look like Him,' but that is not the context of this verse.
- - - The Bible is not specific on exactly what being made in God's image means, but in these verses we see... *remember these things!*
- - - - We are different from the animals: In the Bible, there is a clear distinction between humans & animals. Animals are important & should be treated well, but people are MUCH more important!
- - - - We have free will:
- - - - - Seen in how God gave us 'rule' over creation (we are care-takers who must make decisions & do things with this)
- - - - - This is also seen in how we can create things (e.g. the names of animals, culture, and more!)
- - - - We can relate to God: We can have a real, loving relationship with God
- - - - - Think of your pet dog or cat -- you don't have the same relationship with those as you do with a person, do you? Of course not! You are 'in the same image' of another person, but a dog or cat is 'a different kind'
- - - - - Being made in the 'image of God' means that we can have a relationship with Him in a special & powerful way!
- - - Also note: Both males & females are made in the image of God (v27)
- - 2) So, how should this affect your view and treatment of others?
- - - Many things you could put here, but some basic ideas are:
- - - -We should respect and honor them because they are made in God's image, just like us
- - - -We should view others as having great/high value, God made them Himself & made them in His image & likeness!
- - - - Show me that you have thought about this question on your own, don't simply memorize my two examples--feel free to add your own, from your own reflection!
- Any Questions? Please ask!
