Instructional Time: Unit 6: Laws, Blessings, & Numbers! (Leviticus 23-27 & Numbers)
Journal 6-4:
- Introductory Note: To ‘bless’ meant to fill with benefits. In the Bible, God usually is the one giving blessing. So, ‘blessing someone’ usually meant calling on God to bless them. This means that there should be a good reason to receive the blessing. Consider Proverbs 26:2 (NLT), "Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an unfair curse (…or blessing…) will not land on its intended victim.“ Bearing all that in mind…
- Read Numbers 6:22-27
- - Summarize in your words what you think this blessing means.
- - - Asking for the LORD's face to 'shine upon them' was asking that He would look on them with favor. Think of your parents--if their face 'shined upon you' that is a good thing and you're in a good relationship with them.

- - Why do you think God wants Aaron to bless Israel like this?
- - - To encourage them? Perhaps some! It certainly would encourage me
- - - To remind them? Also possibly true! Reminding them that God wants to bless them & will bless them in their relationship together.

- - Why do you think He uses ‘the LORD’ instead of ‘God’?
- - - This points out that it wasn't any old fake god who was blessing them--it was only 'The LORD' (God's personal name)

- - For this blessing to be ‘fair’ (remember Prov. 26:2), what should be true about Israel?
- - - Just as cursing someone when they don't deserve it means nothing, so also blessing someone when they don't deserve it means nothing.
- - - So, they should be living obediently to 'fairly' receive this blessing.

Leviticus 27: Commitments
- Various rules & laws about
things committed to God…
- - For things like Vows, Animals, Houses, Fields, & The Tithe
- Thus we have the end of Leviticus!

Final Reflections: The Purpose & Relevance of Leviticus
- What does it say about God?
- - He is awesomely holy!
- - He desires a relationship with us (His covenant)
- - He has expectations for how we are to live
- Why is it here for us? Shows how to…
- - Become holy & Continually live as holy
- - Come to Him & Continually worship Him

The Pentateuch Table: Fill in the information for the book of Numbers
- Key Idea: Wandering (in the wilderness)
- The Nation: Directed (By God)
- The People: Tested (By God--Will they really obey?)
- God’s Character: Just (As in, ‘Justice’)
- God’s Role: Sustainer (Of His people)
- God’s Command: “Go in!” (Into the Promised Land)

Numbers: Turn to page 26 in your handout…

- - How many years does Numbers cover? 38 years!
- Reading the Overview:
- Chapters 1-4) Before leaving Sinai…
- - They take a census
- - They learn how to march (or at least what order to march in...)
- - They learn how to move the Tabernacle (and not treat it disrespectfully)
- Chapters 5-10)
- - They obey God!
- - They are blessed (6:22-27)
- - They Celebrate the Passover (Which is not based on farming)
- - - Realize that most of the feasts & festivals we talked about earlier were things they could only look forward to at this time. Since so many were based on the farming year, they couldn't really celebrate them until they had land to plant crops in!

Turn to page 28 in your handout...
- Chapters 10-12)
God leads their departure from Sinai!
- - But things quickly begin to go wrong…
